This Friday, Amanda just started some new extracurricular activities at a local community center, namely gymnastics and children's show choir. The gymnastics class costs less than a third of what her last class cost, and the instruction so far seems to be at least as good, if not better, so she's not the only one who's happy with the arrangement. The show choir meets right after her gymnastics class, and their first song is "Hoedown Throwdown" from the Hannah Montana movie. We don't do much with pop culture these days, so Mom had to look up the song on YouTube so that Amanda could practice outside of class. Good news though is that Amanda can actually follow along with the lyrics sheet the teacher provided! Hooray for reading!
Speaking of reading, Amanda frequently reads books to herself these days. She is working on subtraction, having finished her addition book, and we have also started practicing spelling with her. The biggest excitement, though, for our schooling at home, is definitely her new science and history lesson time. The history is Susan Wise Bauer's Story of the World, the science is Real Science 4 Kids (full text is available online for free viewing; not sure why, but it's the manufacturers putting it up), and Amanda loves them both so much that she wants to be read to from them even outside of school time.
Amanda is still enjoying preschool, but she's looking forward to kindergarten next year. She also likes primary, especially singing time. Her fun random thought today as we were discussing what she'd learned in primary was, "Poor Adam! He didn't have any scriptures!"
