In order to fully understand Amanda's time in kindergarten, one must keep in mind that she has been schooled at home all the while since she was about two and half. By the time she was four, she'd learned to read over twenty sight words and she'd been starting on phonetic reading, as well. Factor in math and writing instruction, all made possible by her own gifts, and you have a rather above grade level kindergardener. Now, we knew that. She knew that. The folks at church who heard her read scriptures out loud knew it, too. But, it was not quite so obvious to the folks at school, since Amanda didn't really go out of her way to over achieve there; too many friends to play with to bother about that. Nevertheless, Mom and Dad requested that she be tested for whole grade advancement at the end of the year. The results? They psychologist recommends that she be placed in second grade, gifted program, since "she'd probably just be bored in first grade."
