Of monkey bars and such

Amanda finished her first full week of school today. Mom was out and about a bit while Amanda was at school today and happened to see Amanda crossing the monkey bars at recess. Go Amanda! Amanda also brought home her first official art project: a water-color painted fish. Apparently they've been having a fish theme this week, complete with breeding guppies (or some sort of live-bearer fish, based on what Mom gathered from the note that came in the Friday Folder today). Thank goodness for teacher summary notes to help start conversations that go beyond just "I had a good time" or "School was fine."

Amanda also got to be a big, busy helper after school during a walking outing to the store. Afterward, she had lots of playtime in the front yard with a neighbor boy. It's interesting what a difference time and perspective make. The neighbor in question is about to become a big brother after a good 8 years or more of being an only child. When Amanda came in and told about playing with him, she explained that she got to run and get the ball after he kicked it, and that she had a really fun time. So, here we see that younger siblings make excellent ball fetchers; something for him to look forward to when the neighbor kids get too big to want to fetch any more.
