Amanda got to spend a week with Uncle Mike's family in Virginia from right after church on 14 June (after Curtis's baby blessing) to the Sunday following when Mom & Dad took her home. Uncle Mike's youngest two are 12, so Amanda had plenty of older cousins to dote on her. When Mom talked to Amanda on the phone, Amanda would tell a little bit about getting her hair or nails done or going to play practice, but soon she'd want to go play more. Needless to say, she was absolutely and completely NOT homesick.
That week was the week of the big play for Uncle Mike's kids. The play this year was The Odessy. This bit of background is provided to give context for the following excepts from Aunt Rebecca's emails about Amanda's activities.
From 16 June:
She's been making "inventions" with a block and marble set we have, making paths for the marbles to roll down. And getting her nails painted and hair done, and going to rehearsal wth the kids.
I don't think Amanda's been homesick. She wasn't eating a lot, but then we discovered mac and cheese. She told us "It makes me grow big and strong!" I think she ate a whole box by herself this afternoon. =)
From 19 June:
Amanda saw the play last night and was really cute during it. She watched, and understood, and whispered questions. "What is that?" "When will Odysseus get home?" "Why are those bad guys in his house?" "Are those real swords?" "Can I see the monster again?" On the way home she said, "Well, that was fun!" And then fell asleep in the car. =)
The day after she got home, Amanda noticed one of the toddlers shrieking, so she told him "Inside voice, please," much to the delight of her parents. About a week after she got back, she said out of the blue "I really miss Uncle Mike." So, if Uncle Mike's family is up for it next year, Amanda is ready to go back, and Mom & Dad know she'll be just fine if she does. :)
